What Kind Of Parent Are You? ..

I read an article today, "What Kind of Parent Are You?", that totally stopped me in my tracks, because I too (just as the author) could not just simply answer the question .. What kind of parent am I?

The author was asked to answer a list of questions for an interview that were to be fast answered, word association-ish. Then came the question .. What kind of parent am I? Her answer .. I am a parent who tries. This was followed by a list of at least 20 other answers from her.

So this article REALLY got me thinking about what kind of parent I am. This is not a simple question with a simple answer. I am many things as a parent ..
  • I am not one to judge another's parenting choices.
  • I am an over-comforter, because I don't want my child to hurt.
  • I am a stay at home mom who feels like I am "winging it" half the time. What am I really doing? Honestly?
  • I am an awful cook. A really terrible, horrible, no good cook!
  • I am a parent who lets their child watch tv.
  • I am a yeller out of frustration .. Sometimes lacking too little patience.
  • I am tired a lot of the time.
  • I am at fault for not always keeping up with the laundry.
  • I am lonely at times.
  • I am a procrastinator of sorts.
  • I am too sensitive.
Ok, there they are. My major flaws, my defects. The proof that I am in no way a perfect mother. But, then I realized, that maybe I am an ok mommy in my own way. I have a son who adores and loves me. Who offers me compassion everyday. He looks at me like I am the best mommy ever. Or at least I hope so!

So, to sum it up, I couldn't agree more with the author's answer of, "I am a parent who tries." Because I too try. Everyday I try. Flaws and all.
